We start with research to understand the context and challenge for design, and the nature and scale of the opportunity.
On our Mission to Mars we needed to know everything about the environment being designed for, the needs of our pilots and engineers working in that environment, and the hopes and ambition of the project team.
We distil this work into experience principles that become the guardrails for our solutions.
These are measures we can assess the work against, and organising strategies for the project as a whole.
With the experience strategy in place we begin to map the customer journey and concept.
Problems have to be understood and designed for systemically - it might be a fast bike on Earth but there ain't no petrol stations on Mars. By mapping flows we can find opportunities for innovation, new concepts, and ideas, that address every aspect of the problem.
We’ll normally sketch a range of concepts - usually at the feature level or as components of modules.
We start with - shock horror - pens and paper :) At this stage we’re prioritising freedom and speed, and we like to detach from the computers to get the neurons firing.
We hate grey boxes. That’s why we weave design and brand into concepts as early as possible to move from concept to living, breathing solution.
If you’re going to be riding a thermonuclear bike in an atmosphere that’s 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen and 2% argon, you’re going to need a pretty special helmet.
Rip + Tear's real power is when we increase the fidelity of the prototype.
This is the moment that your product starts to feel real and delightful as we add the signature flourishes that give your product personality. This gets us closer to product reality and gives potential users a more realistic experience.
At this stage our work either becomes a vision piece, used to inspire and align teams, or it becomes fully designed products or feature sets, ready for build.
We can help you inspire your team and set future vision, or we can bring ideas to life in the form of new digital products and services.
We help you figure out what to build, in what order and why.
Collaborating with our clients and production partners to establish what will be fully designed and built, and in what order. We will work hand in hand with your development team to ensure they have what they need to build the designs to product reality.
